How to use Family Talk

FamilyTalk is a 2-way discussion list set up for our family members only.  Family members are defined as whoever we say they are!  We are trying to get everyone to join the list.  Why?  We all travel and leave our address books at home (except me, of course, who uses a BlackBerry!).  By having web based access to everyone to send email, we can report in real time, from anywhere there is internet access, on what we are doing.  And we can get immediate feedback.

Everyone is currently subscribed using their email accounts somewhere on the web; comcast, gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.  To post a message to FamilyTalk from your web based email client from anywhere in the world there is access to the internet, logon to your web based email and just send an email message to:  familytalk@lists.ourherd.org  Do the same thing from your own home computer using whatever mail client you use; Outlook Express, Outlook, Mail, etc. and send a message to familytalk@lists.ourherd.org

If you would like to have a free EMAIL account at ourherd.org, let me know.  I have one, carol@ourherd.org.  It has junkmail filters, a calendar, and an address book that comes with.  It also has the ability to send and receive from the web as well as your home computer email client (POP3, IMAP and SMTP).  I think these accounts are ideal for the kids if we assign their passwords.  The day they figure out how to change their password is the day their account is deleted!  Adults are welcome to change their passwords!  The other nice thing about these email accounts is they are located on our own server and there are NO ads!

FamilyTalk has many features.  You can see who is a member of the list and all the posts are archived.  You can choose to receive FamilyTalk posts as they happen, or in digest form.  You can make adjustments to your account by sending a message to:  FamilyTalk-request@lists.ourherd.org with the word "help" in the subject line or body (don't include the quotes), and you will get back a message with instructions.  The archives are located at: http://lists.ourherd.org/listinfo.cgi/familytalk-ourherd.org
